J&J Black Bivvy

It wouldn't be a birthday trip away without some glamping! Nestled in the mature native bush in the King Country region, you'll find this off the grid wooden cabin called Black Bivvy. This is a peaceful paradise like no other.

As soon as we stepped out of the car, we found ourselves immersed in nature, with a constant backdrop of bird song and playful Piwakawaka dancing amongst the trees. I knew right away that I wouldn’t want to leave, and I hadn't even explored inside yet! During our stay we also spotted a few Tui.

Ready to take a look around with me?

The hut was spacious, private and relaxing. It was everything we could ask for and so much more.

We loved all the little touches like the biscuits, marshmallows and lollies which the kids enjoyed.

Black Bivvy can sleep up to four guests, which was perfect for two couples or a family.

Meeting our neighbours for the next few days.

We also loved testing out the Go Rumple outdoor blanket on our trip. So lightweight but keeps you all snug and warm.

Black Bivvy is self-catering. We brought our own food and drink, and cooked meals using the facilities provided in the kitchen. You'll find everything you need from cutlery, crockery, pots and pans. Jake loved cooking on the outdoor fireplace kitted out with grills for barbequing over the open fire.

Glamping tip - Take your Chef husband away with you that cooks epic meals over the open fire grill.

Waking up to find Chef husband had been in the kitchen again.

Our main goal for these few days was to fully relax. We went back to the good old days, with no television and just quality family time. We enjoyed the fireplace, cooking delicious food and playing board games. We had some rain during our stay but that just added to the magic of the place. We were snug and warm with the fire crackling and smouldering all night.

There's loads to do outside at Black Bivvy too. Arlo enjoyed playing on these stepping stumps.

Arlo wasnt too sure about the flying fox but after watching Dad go down on it he jumped on with him and had a go.

At 60m long and about 2m off the ground at its highest point, Arlo loved whizzing through the clearing amongst the green. It is great fun no matter what your age!  Jake also explored one of their bush tracks on the property that lead to a beautiful waterfall.

An outdoor bath sits on the edge of the deck which overlooks the countryside and the stunning trees. The kids loved jumping in with me and splashing about. Not very relaxing, but in the evenings once the kids were asleep…it was our turn to relax! We would jump in and enjoy a bath while looking up at the starry night sky. Bliss!

Finding beautiful outdoor baths is a hobby of mine.

It wouldn't be glamping without roasting some mashmellows.

When Dad whips you up chocolate mousse and hot chocolates. Perfect afternoon treat!

One thing we loved about this place was how it was built for indoor, outdoor living. Pulling open a sliding window in the kitchen and door from the living area instantly opens everything up to a large outdoor covered alfresco dining area with an outdoor fireplace. Perfect for barbequing over the open fire or roasting marshmallows with the kids.

Black Ivvy was the perfect little getaway. A chance to reset and unwind, and there is no better place to do it than being surrounded by nature and the countryside.
