Yearly recap: 2020 Happy New Year!

2020 has been a year of high and lows however, most importantly it has taught us to slow down and truly appreciate what we have. As always, I wanted to share a little round up of the year that was. We also use this time of year to do some family photos. This year we headed down to one of our favourite spots here in the Wairarapa, Morrisons Bush which is on the banks of the Ruamahanga river and surrounded by native Manuka trees. It's the perfect spot to sit and relax if you're looking for some peace and tranquillity in the outdoors. It also makes the perfect backdrop for family photos. During Summer you can find us here, swimming, or having a picnic and it’s a great spot to camp too.

2020 has been a crazy year for us all. This year was completely different to what we expected, but man my heart is so full. I have learnt a lot this year but most importantly, to slow down and be more present and grateful for my wee family. We kicked off the year celebrating our sixth wedding anniversary at Dreamscape Glamping just down the road from where we actually said our I do’s.

The Wairarapa continues to be an amazing home for us. We still have a never ending list of places to explore but we managed to tick off a lot this year including the Cobblestones Museum and a Staycation at the White Swan in Greytown along with some great family friendly hikes and bicycle trails. The Wairarapa is also filled with gorgeous places to eat from bistros and vineyards to artisan bakeries. We’re always trying new places and put together a list of our favourite family friendly Wairarapa eats just for you.

Covid meant there was no international travel for us this year, including cancelling our trip to Japan along with our yearly trip to Australia to see family. This meant exploring more of our own backyard. We've done a lot of travel around the world! During our travels one thing we always said was how lucky we are to call New Zealand home. There's nowhere like it and there is a reason why it's on so many travellers bucket list! We went on a family holiday to Rotorua along with Hawkes Bay this year. This meant a new section on the blog where you can find all our family friendly things to do here in New Zealand.

This year we also shared a bit more about our family life and our parenting journey with Arlo and what helps us, along with our Montessori home tour. I share a lot of our highlights on here, however, this year we also experienced some heartbreak and lost a baby. We took time to navigate this new territory of grief, loss and all the hurt and confusion that accompanies it. Having a miscarriage is a membership to a club that nobody wants to be a part of. Once something has been taken away from you it makes you realise just how much you really wanted it. We are taking one day at a time and praying to be able to grow our family in 2021.

I’m so thankful for everyone who follows us and the opportunity to be creative and connect with so many wonderful people through my blog. We can’t wait to continue documenting our memories and sharing our adventures with you all.
