My first official baking recipe on the blog! But don't worry Jake was in the kitchen helping me as this is the first cake I have ever baked! So I am pretty proud of myself, we took it along as desert to a dinner party with friends on the weekend and I can honestly say it tastes as good as it looks!
Ingredients:
- 125g butter
- 1 C sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 tbsp vanilla essence
- 2/3 C cocoa
- 2 tbsp vinegar
- 1 C milk
- 1 3/4 C plain flour
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1 tbsp baking soda
- 1/2 C hot water
Directions:
- Beat butter until creamy add sugar, eggs and vanilla, beat until light and fluffy.
- Blend cocoa and hot water to smooth mixture and then add gradually to the creamed mixture.
- Add vinegar to milk to sour.
- Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda and a pinch of salt add together with the sour milk alternately into the creamed mixture.
- Pour into two greased 20cm cake tins and bake in oven at 180°C for 30 minutes
- Cool for 10 minutes before removing from tins and add chocolate icing.
Chocolate Butter Icing
Ingredients:
- 120 g butter
- 1 egg
- 3 tbsp milk
- 1/2 C cocoa
- 2 C icing sugar
Directions:
- Soften butter and beat well with egg top with milk until thick and creamy
- Sift cocoa and icing sugar, work into butter, egg and milk.
- Add a little bit more icing sugar if not thick enough.
