We've moved!....Again! I know, it seems like we can’t seem to stay still. So, Jake and I don't fight a lot but there’s one thing we always seem to disagree on…..where to live?! He’s definitely a country guy and I’m more of a city gal! But if I'm honest, it truly doesn't matter where we live, just as long as we are together. My home is not a place, it's a person...well now two people, Jake and Arlo. My family are my home. It wasn't an easy decision because we had originally planned to move back to the UK after being home in NZ for a year. I’m so sad we are not returning. I love London and it’s really hard having your heart in two places, but we are already planning a trip back over there and we can't wait to catch up with all our friends. I also can't wait to show Arlo why I love London and take him to all my favourite places.
I am excited to start this new chapter of our lives in the Wairarapa. I can’t wait to explore this place more and share with you all that there is to do, eat and see here. We moved here because Jake got a job in the Wairarapa. I am so thankful that he can provide for our family while I stay at home. I know in this day and age it’s very hard to live on one income but these early years are so important and I feel very blessed that I can stay home and have this special one on one time with Arlo.
I've decided each week that we will have a family day! This can be as simple as doing some baking together or going for a picnic down at our local park. There will also be lot of opportunities to try the cafes and explore family activities. I am looking forward to sharing our family adventures in the Wairarapa!
For our first family day out we went to our tried and tested local bakery which is in an old renovated church. Clareville Bakery is home to award winning pies, and some of the best artisan bread and European-style pastries you can buy. Oh and don't forget their cronuts! You have to try them if you are ever near this place. They are irresistible!
Clareville Bakery also has an outside playground for kids along with a kids play section inside to keep your little ones entertained.
We find ourselves here regularly and love to come here for brunch. As you can see they cook an awesome big kiwi breakfast and Jake loves their French toast….seems Arlo does too!
Then it was adventure time! We headed to the coast to Cape Palliser which is just an hour’s drive from Martinborough. The scenic drive to Cape Palliser is beautiful and as you travel along the edge of the coast you are provided with fantastic panoramic views of the bay.
Once we reached our destination our eyes were drawn to the magnificent picturesque lighthouse! The climb to the Cape Palliser lighthouse will test your fitness. There are 250 steps to climb...I counted them! I had to spare a thought for the early lighthouse keepers who had to haul oil and kerosene cans up a dirt track before the steps went in! Lucky the lighthouse lamp is automated these days, and controlled and monitored by a computer in Wellington.
The Cape is also home to the North Island's largest fur seal colony. We were lucky enough to even spot some pups!
Our first family day out was a great success! I can't wait for the next one. I hope this gives you some inspiration for your own family days out and also makes you want to come and explore our new neighbourhood too!
