J&J in LA ~ Part One

I've been so excited about our trip to Los Angeles all year! I was literally counting down the days because it's one of those places I've been dying to visit. The other reason for being so excited is we met my sister and her husband with my two adorable nephews there! We were ready to have the most jam packed, fun filled holiday EVER!

La La Land! We loved LA. It was amazing and everything I dreamed it would be. From its palm trees, sunny skies, amusement parks, taco trucks to…the dudes on skateboards. It seems like I'm a true California girl at heart! As Katy Perry say's “California girls, We're unforgettable, daisy dukes, bikinis on top, sun-kissed skin, so hot we'll melt your popsicle oh oh oh oh” I may have sung this repeatedly while on our trip! I cannot wait to share this crazy adventure with you. We did and saw so much that I have split our LA trip into two posts...Without further ado here is part one!

As soon as we touched down in LA we headed straight to our accommodation, eagerly excited to reunite with the family. The hardest part about living on the other side of the world is defiantly being away from those you love dearly.

We had hired a house for our stay and it was in the perfect location right in central LA and in the trendy Melrose Avenue area. We loved the outdoor space where you could relax and get cosy around the outdoor fire pit! We spent our first night catching up and chilling out.

This house was the perfect base for the six of us during our stay. The home was beautifully decorated equipped with everything we needed. We all loved our stay here, very comfy, easy parking, and awesome location. Great for families or a trip with friends! If your planning a trip to LA your can book this house here.

Up bright and early, I was ready to explore as much as humanly possible. We headed out to Melrose Ave, a tree-lined shopping and dining destination with some must do trendy stops. That’s right…Melrose Place isn’t just an old school 90’s TV show! First stop was Alfred Tea Room, the coolest place to pick up a drink in LA. Matcha, oolong, and chai teas…OH MY! I loved this place as I'm completely a tea kinda girl and with its pretty pink décor, it was a must stop for me!

I got the pink drink which is on their special menu. For all you coffee lovers out there you will be happy to know they also do coffee. Jake went for a cold brew, along with a rose croissant to share.

One thing that LA is famous for, is it's wall murals and there were two in particular that I was dying to take a photo in front of. First the Made in LA Wall. I mean come on, you cannot come to LA without doing a photo in front of this wall!

The second was Paul Smiths famous Pink Wall. I'm a complete girly girl so of course there was no way I was going to pass up taking a photo in front of this one! We had woken really early due to the time difference and I was pretty happy when we turned up and had this whole pink wall to myself!!! Later in the day we drove past and the wall was covered with people trying to get that Instagram shot!

We headed to The Grove which is a mall with a beautifully designed outdoor space. Lots of trendy boutique stores and also the Farmers Market where we had been told was the place to go for lunch. They weren't wrong! There were so many food choices! We ended up getting sushi from Sushi A Go Go and had a wonder around the shops.

After lunch we were all feeling like a bit of a sweet treat, so we took the boys down to Milk to pick up one of their famous customised cookie/ice cream sandwiches. I have been following these guys on Instagram and after seeing multiple pictures of these eye-catching ice cream treats, I was super excited to try one. We all left happily satisfied, albeit with sticky fingers. I definitely won some best Aunty points with that place!

This little kid's face just cracks me up!

We ended our day by going up to see the Hollywood sign. Cue next song, "I hopped off the plane at L.A.X with a dream and my cardigan. Welcome to the land of fame, excess, whoa! Am I gonna fit in? Jumped in the cab, here I am for the first time, look to my right and I see the Hollywood sign!” I am one of those crazy people that constantly break out into songs all the time and now it seems I do so on my blog too...I can't help myself! We got some great photos in front of this iconic sign and it was a great way to finish our first day in Los Angeles.

Travel Tip: For the best views of the Hollywood sign head to this address. No hiking involved, easy parking and absolute best spot for great views!

Lights, camera, action! We headed to Hollywood Boulevard to the Hollywood Walk of Fame. This is a legendary memorial walk adorned with stars bearing the biggest names in the entertainment industry. I spent most of my time running around pointing out stars and taking photos with my favourites!

Travel Tip: This place can get extremely busy with tourist during the day. It was also extremely hot while we were in LA so we did most of our site seeing early in the morning or late in the afternoon when the temperature is a bit cooler. This is also great for photos too as you don't have heaps of people in them!

Next we headed to where the stars live! Beverly Hills! The houses, what am I saying the grand mansions around this area are massive!!! Beverly Hills offers an array of unique places to take the perfect snapshot including the beautiful Beverly Gardens Park!

We made a quick spot at the iconic Beverly Hills hotel! Affectionately known as the ‘Pink Palace’ just imagining all the legendary guests that would have stayed at this hotel! I do happen to love that my dress that I was wearing also happened to match the hotel!

We then headed to Rodeo Drive so I could have my Julia Roberts “Pretty Woman” moment. Rodeo Drive is a famous high end shoppers street. All together now....."Pretty woman, walkin' down the street, Pretty woman the kind I'd like to meet!"

That's when we saw it! A whole flower wall just waiting for me to take a photo in front of it!!
The perfect picture opportunity!

I was at Rodeo Drive to buy one thing in particular.... A cupcake!!! No ordinarily cupcake one from the famous The Sprinkles Cupcake ATM! 24 hour a day access to cupcakes…Genius if you ask me! I simply walked up to the machine, selected my flavor, paid with my credit card and out came a perfectly packaged box with a cupcake that looked like it came fresh from the actual bakery.

Amazing!

Hope you all enjoyed Part One of our trip to LA, Part Two coming soon!
